Swedish club IF Oddevold have completed the signing of Nigerian youngster Timi Destiny on a long-term contract, Footy-Africa understands.
Destiny joins the club from Nigerian academy MKA Football Academy after impressing during a trial that began in June.
Footy-Africa understands that the midfielder featured in the several matches during his trials and convinced the club of his potential.
A source disclosed that Destiny has signed a contract believed to be around three years, giving him time to adapt to Swedish football and continue his development.
The club’s technical staff are understood to have approved the signing, believing the youngster can adapt to Oddevold’s playing style and tactical structure.
Destiny, a central midfielder, is regarded as one of the promising young talents emerging from Nigeria. He is known for his high intensity, pressing ability and technical quality, while his willingness to remain involved in play both on and off the ball makes him an energetic presence in midfield.
Speaking after signing his contract, Destiny expressed his delight at taking the next step in his career.
“I have always dreamed of becoming a professional footballer, and today that dream has come true. I would describe myself as a versatile box-to-box midfielder. I am comfortable with the ball and like to make runs into the penalty area to contribute offensively,” he said.
Destiny trained with manager Rikard Nilsson’s senior side on Friday and is expected to split his time between the first-team environment and the club’s youth setup as he settles into his new surroundings.
While the midfielder is expected to continue his development with the youth team initially, he is being considered as part of the club’s longer-term plans, with the possibility of joining the senior squad fully next season.
His move to Sweden marks an important step in his ambition to establish himself in European football and develop into a first-team player.
