The highly anticipated transfer of Gambian midfielder Abdoulie Manneh from Mjällby AIF to Olympiacos FC has hit an unexpected snag, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.

Despite initial reports pointing to a completed deal, the move to the Greek giants has now been cancelled — with conflicting explanations emerging about what went wrong.

Manneh, 21, had travelled to Greece earlier this week and was expected to finalise terms with Olympiacos following a routine medical. Early reports suggested that the transfer was called off due to medical issues discovered during the examination. However, sources close to the player in an exclusive conversation with Footy-Africa disputed that version of events, revealing that Manneh in fact passed his medical on Tuesday without issue.

Instead, the real reason behind the breakdown appears to be a sudden change of heart from the player himself. According to individuals familiar with the situation, Manneh reconsidered his decision to join Olympiacos after arriving in Athens, ultimately opting not to move forward with the transfer.

In a strategic move to control the narrative, the Greek club is understood to have cited medical concerns to explain the collapsed deal — a claim now being quietly contested by the player’s camp.

With the transfer window nearing its end, Manneh has returned to Sweden and rejoined Mjällby AIF, his current club in the Allsvenskan. Neither club has made an official statement detailing the reasons behind the cancellation, and Manneh has also remained silent publicly on the matter.

As it stands, his future remains uncertain. Whether he will stay at Mjällby for the remainder of the season or explore other opportunities elsewhere is still unclear.

The situation leaves more questions than answers, and all eyes will be on both the player and the club in the coming days as the transfer window edges closer to its conclusion.
