Ghanaian midfielder Mawuli Mensah, in an exclusive interview with Footy-Africa, said he believes his move to AD Ceuta FC gives him the right opportunity to find his way back in Spanish football after his spell with Real Zaragoza.
The interview came just hours after Mensah completed his move to Ceuta on a two-year deal following his departure from Zaragoza, where he spent the second half of the 2025/26 season in LaLiga2. He made 13 appearances for Zaragoza, including seven starts.
Zaragoza’s relegation from LaLiga2 to Primera FederaciΓ³n brought Mensah’s spell with the club to an end, leaving him available for a new challenge.
Speaking to Footy-Africa, Mensah said returning to the Spanish second tier with Ceuta represents an important opportunity to build on the experience he gained at Zaragoza.
βFor me, honestly, I think it’s a great step for me as well, you know, coming back from Zaragoza with the little experience that I’ve got already in the league and wanting to fight more and more in the league, but unfortunately we couldn’t,β he said.
βI think stepping back again into the same league, I think it’s a great step for me. And obviously with the trust and the confidence from all the coaches and the board as well, they trust in my abilities and all that.β
Mensah said the confidence shown in him by Ceuta was an important factor in his decision to join the club.
βI feel it’s the right place to be at this moment, to find my way back again into the league,β he said.

The midfielder also wants to help Ceuta achieve their ambitions while continuing his own development.
βAnd obviously to meet the ambitions and the goals of the club. And I feel this is the right place for me to enjoy more and more my football and then grow and then move forward,β he added.
Mensah previously played for Betis Deportivo after joining Real Betis in 2023, having earlier developed at Antequera. His move to Zaragoza in January gave him an opportunity to gain experience in Spain’s second tier.
He now returns to LaLiga2 with Ceuta, where he will look to build on his experience at Zaragoza and continue his development.
