Sporting Lisbon are among several European clubs showing interest in signing Ghanaian midfielder Mawuli Mensah, with teams from Germany also monitoring his situation, a source close to the player has told Footy-Africa.
The 22-year-old is expected to secure a move before the start of the new season after bringing his spell at Spanish side Real Zaragoza to an end.
Mensah spent the second half of the 2025-26 campaign on loan from Real Betis after joining Zaragoza in January on a six-month deal. The agreement included an option to make the move permanent for two years, but the clause depended on Zaragoza retaining their place in Spain’s second division and was not activated.
Following the expiry of the loan, the Ghanaian has decided to move on in search of a new challenge, with interest growing from clubs across Europe.
Ghanaian midfielder Mawuli Mensah confirms Real Zaragoza departure
Sporting Lisbon have emerged as one of the leading contenders for his signature, while a number of German clubs are also keeping a close eye on his availability.
Mensah made 13 appearances during his time at Zaragoza and used the move to gain valuable first-team experience after struggling for regular opportunities at Real Betis, where he split his time between the senior side and the reserve team.
The midfielder is now in advanced talks over his next move, with an announcement expected in the coming days. His next destination is likely to be decided soon as he weighs up the offers on the table and prepares for the next step in his career.
