Michael Baidoo wants to leave Plymouth Argyle this summer despite being expected to report for pre-season later this month, with sources telling Footy-Africa Ghana midfielder believes a fresh start is the best option after a disappointing spell at the club.
The 27-year-old is currently in Ghana after spending last season on loan at Qatar Stars League side Umm Salal, where he scored two goals and provided four assists. He has been training individually to stay fit ahead of the new campaign, but those close to the player say his focus is on securing a move away from Home Park.
Baidoo joined Plymouth from Swedish side Elfsborg in January 2025 for a fee of more than Β£1 million, arriving with high expectations. However, he struggled to establish himself and failed to justify the club’s investment. His performances came under criticism from sections of the fanbase before he was loaned to Umm Salal.
Sources say the midfielder has been left frustrated by how his time at Plymouth has unfolded. Although he is also reluctant to play in League One, his desire to leave is primarily driven by the feeling that his time at the club has run its course.

Baidoo remains under contract until June 2028, and sources say Plymouth are fully aware of his desire to leave. The current plan is for him to report for pre-season later this month, but another loan move is considered the most likely outcome if a permanent transfer cannot be agreed.
Footy-Africa understands Umm Salal are interested in bringing Baidoo back after his loan spell. However, it is not yet clear whether the Qatari club would pursue another loan deal or make a move for a permanent transfer.
There are no concrete offers at this stage, although Baidoo and his representatives are hopeful interest will emerge as the transfer window gathers pace.
Unless a move materialises before then, the Ghana international will begin pre-season with Plymouth while his future continues to be resolved.
