Zambian defender Gift Mphande has returned home after his contract with Israeli Liga Leumit side Hapoel Ironi Rishon LeZion was not renewed, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.

The 20-year-old central defender had joined Rishon LeZion on a one-year loan deal from Athletico Lusaka but was released at the end of last season.

In 2023, Mphande attended trials with Italian Serie A side Cagliari, but the move did not materialise.

According to Footy-Africa’s exclusive information, he was spotted in Ndola last weekend during the Zambian Charity Shield match between Zesco United and Power Dynamos.

Multiple sources indicate that Mphande is in talks with Zesco United, who are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup clash against Ivorian giants ASEC Mimosas.

Tipped by many as one of Zambia’s next big stars, Mphande made his senior national team debut last year at the Africa Cup of Nations.
