Muhammed Hydara has taken another significant step in his European journey after completing a permanent transfer to Latvian top-flight side FS Jelgava before sealing a short-term loan move to Estonian club Tartu JK Tammeka.

The Gambian midfielder joins Tammeka on loan until the end of the current Estonian league season, a move agreed shortly after Jelgava secured his signature on a three-year contract from Slovakian second-tier club FK Pohronie.

Hydara, a former BST Galaxy FC midfielder, has steadily built his reputation in Europe following his initial move from The Gambia to Slovakia. While his early spell abroad came with adaptation challenges, his recent performances have underlined his growth and maturity as a player.

Reacting to the move, his agent, Modou Lamin Beyai, praised Hydara’s progress and described the transfer as well deserved.

“Muhammed Hydara is a very talented midfielder who truly deserves this move. When he first left BST Galaxy FC for Podbrezová, he initially struggled to fully settle in Slovakia, which is normal for a young player adapting to a new country, culture and style of football in European league football,” Beyai said.

Hydara’s time at FK Pohronie proved to be a turning point. During the most recent season, he delivered his most productive campaign so far, scoring five goals and registering three assists in just 16 league appearances.

“This season with FK Pohronie, he unarguably had his best season as a professional so far,” Beyai added.

Despite interest from clubs in other parts of Europe, Pohronie were cautious about the timing of his departure. That changed when FS Jelgava entered negotiations.

“When Jelgava came in, all parties immediately felt it was the right move, especially as it gives him the opportunity to be tied to a club competing in the Latvian top division,” Beyai explained.

The subsequent loan to Tartu JK Tammeka was a strategic decision. Jelgava, already at their foreign player limit, were keen to ensure Hydara continued playing regularly.

“Jelgava made it clear they didn’t want to sign him and then have him sit without playing. That’s why all parties agreed that a short-term loan to Tammeka until the end of the Estonian league season was the best solution,” he said.

Beyai also highlighted the growing reputation of the Estonian league, pointing to recent success stories that have attracted attention across Europe:

“The Estonian league is now very respectable and closely followed by clubs around Europe. We are already seeing strong results from our ongoing projects there, and as recently as yesterday, a player in the same league, Marten-Chris Paalberg, secured a €1 million move to AS Saint-Étienne.”

With a fresh challenge ahead in Estonia and long-term stability secured in Latvia, expectations are high for Hydara’s next chapter.

“I’m very positive Hydara will have a strong season, even stronger than what he showed in Slovakia. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him take the next step quickly, either out of Estonia or even beyond the Latvian club itself,” Beyai concluded.

Hydara’s loan spell at Tartu JK Tammeka now offers him the platform to gain consistent top-flight minutes, showcase his quality, and continue his upward trajectory in European football.
