Gambia international Musa Barrow is approaching a defining moment in his club career, with his contract at Saudi Arabian side Al-Taawoun FC set to expire at the end of the current season, Footy-Africa can exclusively reveal.
Barrow joined Al-Taawoun in September 2023 from Italian Serie A outfit Bologna FC and has since established himself as one of the club’s most influential attacking players. However, with his deal running down, uncertainty now surrounds his immediate future in Saudi Arabia.
Al-Taawoun’s management is understood to be keen on opening negotiations with the Scorpions talisman over a possible contract extension. That process, however, has been complicated by concerns over the 27-year-old’s current injury situation. The club is reportedly weighing its options, with one scenario involving close monitoring of Barrow’s recovery to assess his readiness before committing to fresh terms, while another could see them begin the search for a potential replacement ahead of the summer transfer window.

From the player’s side, Barrow is also carefully considering his next move. Sources indicate that he is weighing whether to wait until he fully regains fitness before engaging in talks, or to see out the season and reassess his options in the summer, when he would be free to negotiate as a free agent.
Leaving Al-Taawoun on a free transfer appears a strong possibility and could prove financially beneficial for the Gambian forward. It is understood that Barrow has already attracted significant interest from several clubs both within the Saudi Pro League and beyond, placing him in a strong negotiating position should he decide to move on.
Despite the current uncertainty, Barrow’s impact at Al-Taawoun has been clear. Since his arrival, he has scored an impressive 30 goals in 79 appearances, underlining his value as a proven goalscorer and a key attacking outlet.
