The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is close to finalising a new contract agreement with Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, Footy-Africa can exclusively report.
Chelle is currently in the final year of his existing contract with the Federation, but the NFF has moved swiftly to open negotiations for a new deal amid growing interest from other countries.
The former Mali head coach has impressed since taking charge of the Super Eagles following the resignation of Finidi George, guiding Nigeria to the FIFA World Cup qualifiers playoff.
At the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, the Super Eagles displayed remarkable resilience and strong tactical discipline—qualities that have earned Chelle widespread praise from fans and football analysts alike.
Nigeria eventually finished third at the tournament, going unbeaten in regulation time and emerging as the highest-scoring team.
Footy-Africa previously reported, in an exclusive interview with the Director General of Nigeria’s Sports Commission, Bukola Olopade, that the NFF had been given approval to negotiate a new contract for the former Mali boss.

A few days later, Footy-Africa also revealed that Chelle and his entourage visited the office of Nigeria’s Sports Commission in Abuja in late January to begin discussions over a contract extension.
According to the latest information gathered by Footy-Africa, negotiations have progressed smoothly, with most details already agreed upon. The proposed terms reportedly include a two-year contract extension as well as Chelle’s salary.
Only a few minor details remain to be resolved before an official announcement is made.
