Many players often find themselves caught between two nations when deciding which country to represent at the international level. While some players of African descent have represented foreign countries and achieved success, others have regretted their decisions.

With the 2026 FIFA World Cup just a few months away, several footballers are undecided about which nation to represent as they hope to fulfil their dreams of featuring on footballโ€™s biggest stage.

From Eddie Nketiah to youngster Josh Acheampong, this list features five football stars that are eligible to represent Ghana.

Eddie Nketiah

Former Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah was born in London to Ghanaian parents, making him eligible to play for the Black Stars. The 26-year-old has played for England at all youth levels and initially turned down a call-up from the Ghana national team in 2019, opting to represent the Three Lions.

He made his debut for England in a 1-0 win over Australia in an international friendly match in 2023, but remains eligible to play for Ghana, as he is yet to make three competitive appearances for the Three Lions.

Josh Acheampong

Chelsea youngster Josh Acheampong is also of Ghanaian descent, but was born in London.

The 19-year-old defender currently features for the England U21 side, having also played across all youth levels for the country, but remains eligible for a call-up from the Ghana national team.

Josh Acheampong has signed a new contract until 2029.

Callum Hudson-Odoi

Nottingham Forest winger Callum Hudson-Odoi remains eligible to play for Ghana, having made less than three competitive appearances for England before turning 21.

The former Chelsea forward has however featured for England a few times, making his debut in March 2019.

He became the second-youngest player to make a competitive start for the Three Lions a few days later, but has not received an invitation to play since November 2019.

Tyrique George

Tyrique George is of Nigerian and Ghanaian descent, making him eligible to play for both the Super Eagles and the Black Stars. The youngster was also born in London, making him an option for the England national team.

He has represented England at the U16, U17, U18 and U19 levels and recently received a call-up to play for the U21 side.

Samuel Rak-Sakyi

Samuel Rak-Sakyi was born in England to Ghanaian parents, making a potential call up from the Black Stars a future possibility.

The youngster has however played for England at both the U17 and U18 levels, but could favor an opportunity to play for Ghana due to the high level of competition in the Three Lions squad.
