Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka could be on the move again this winter as his future at Brentford continues to attract attention across Europe, with Championship promotion hopefuls Coventry City emerging as serious contenders for his signature.

Sources close to his development side, FC Ebiede, have confirmed to footy-africa.com that the 28-year-old is now actively considering a move away from Brentford in search of consistent playing time. Coventry City are understood to be at the forefront of those discussions, as the Sky Blues look to strengthen their squad in their push for promotion to the Premier League.

“Onyeka has a few offers from Germany, France and in England that is being looked at, but within a day or two we will know,” a source exclusively revealed. “He wants to play more and I think Brentford also will not block him from moving this winter transfer window. For him, more minutes is what is needed and I think his showing at the Nations Cup shows he has to be starting games.”

Lack of playing time pushes Frank Onyeka toward Brentford exit

“The competition at his club is a lot but he is capable. He is a professional who does not complain and just wants to play. Coventry City have made inquiries, same as a Bundesliga club and one in France, but I think he wants to stay in England so the Coventry option is one he will like. The club is in the promotion fight so it will be good for him if he goes there and they make it to the Premier League,” he added.

Onyeka has been a constant feature in transfer discussions since the summer window, and that speculation has not eased as the season progresses. The energetic midfielder spent last season on loan at German Bundesliga side Augsburg, where he gained valuable experience, before returning to Brentford ahead of the current campaign.

However, opportunities at the Gtech Community Stadium have been limited. Onyeka has featured in just six matches this season, registering one assist, as competition for places in Thomas Frank’s midfield continues to intensify. Despite his professionalism and willingness to fight for his place, regular minutes have proved hard to come by.

Four possible destinations for Frank Onyeka amid January Brentford exit

His stock, though, remains high. Onyeka was one of Nigeria’s standout performers at the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where his work rate, ball-winning ability and tactical discipline caught the eye. That tournament has reignited interest in his services, with clubs from the English Championship, France and Germany all monitoring his situation.
