Exclusively speaking to Footy-Africa, Johana Omondi, who has completed a move to Saudi Arabian second-tier side Al Zulfi FC on a three-year contract, has backed his move to the club, terming it the right choice for career and development.

The Kenyan international, who until recently played for Romanian side UTA Arad, has been a free agent since his contract’s expiration with the latter close to two months back.

“I’m grateful for this opportunity and eager to give my best for Al Zulfi,” Omondi exclusively told Footy-Africa. “The ambition of the club and the warm welcome I’ve received made this an easy decision. I believe this is the right step for my career and I’m ready to fight for success with my teammates.”

Johana, whose Transfermarkt valuation is estimated at €500,000, joined UTA Arad from Muang Thong United in Thailand in 2023, and has since played 57 matches, scoring seven goals and assisting 10 times. He has also played in two Romanian Cup matches this season.

Meanwhile, his football journey began in his native Kenya at the then-FKF Premier League outfit, Mathare United, where he played for three seasons. He then went to Europe, joining the Swedish championship team Vasalunds IF. He also featured for Brommapojkarna and Jonkoping in Sweden, before joining the Belgian side Beveren.

At the international stage, with the Kenyan National senior team, the Harambee Stars, Omondi has garnered 36 caps, managing five goals and two assists. He is part of Kenya’s squad set to battle Gambia and Gabon in the forthcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
