Nigeria, on the other hand, failed to qualify for the World Cup tournament after a penalty shootout defeat to DR Congo in the CAF playoff final ended their hopes of reaching the mundial. It marks their second consecutive absence, after they also missed out on the 2022 edition in Qatar, losing to Ghana in the final playoff phase.
The Super Eagles head into this clash on the back of a 2-2 draw against Poland, where they conceded a late equalizer which denied them victory. The African giants also defeated Zimbabwe 2-0 and Jamaica 3-0 to win a fourth straight Unity Cup title last month.

Fulham defender Calvin Bassey is expected to return to the lineup after starting from the bench against Poland in Nigeria’s last match.
