Prince Osei Owusu — currently starring for CF Montréal — could be on his way back to Germany, as journalist Florian Plettenberg reports interest from both Mainz and Wolfsburg.
The 28-year-old striker, born and raised in Germany and having come through the youth system at VfB Stuttgart, has spent several seasons playing in German football before heading to Canada. In 2025, he signed with CF Montréal and quickly rediscovered his scoring touch: his form in MLS has earned him a first call-up to the Ghana national team.
Now, with Owusu reportedly open to leaving Montréal, clubs in the Bundesliga are said to be lining up. Sources suggest that CF Montréal would be willing to let him go for a transfer fee in the region of €2–3 million — a modest sum for European clubs looking to bolster their attack without spending big. For Mainz or Wolfsburg, it represents a low-risk gamble: a player with physical presence, goal-scoring potential and familiarity with the German football environment.
Yet, the move would also come with uncertainties. Though Owusu has played in Germany before, he has never featured in the Bundesliga proper. Transitioning from MLS to top-level European football could be a stern test. In addition, competition for attacking spots — especially at a club like Wolfsburg — remains fierce. Until formal offers are submitted and accepted, the interest remains speculative, not concrete.
Still, for a player whose career looked momentarily adrift, this may be a real opportunity for a fresh start on familiar ground — a comeback to Germany that could reignite both his club career and international ambitions.
