Gambian midfielder Gibril Sosseh has taken a major step in his professional career after completing a five-year permanent transfer to Czech giants SK Slavia Praha from Swedish club Kalmar FF. The move marks another significant milestone for Gambian football, highlighting the growing pathway from local talent to Europe’s elite leagues.
The transfer was facilitated by his agent, Modou Lamin Beyai, who described the move as challenging but ultimately rewarding. Talking exclusively to Footy-Africa, he confirmed that other European clubs were interested in Sosseh’s transfer, in particular Club Brugge, Midtjylland and Oxford United, but they failed to secure the deal.

Reflecting on Sosseh’s journey, Beyai emphasized the player’s character as much as his talent. He recalled identifying Sosseh early on as a prospect destined for the top, noting that his discipline, humility, and relentless work ethic have been key to his rapid rise.
Beyai also highlighted the collaborative role played by Kalmar FF and BST Galaxy FC in shaping the move. Kalmar’s sporting leadership, including former sporting director Jörgen Petersson and technical director Jens Nilsson, traveled to The Gambia to scout Sosseh in person before acting decisively to secure his signature. The agent expressed sincere appreciation to BST Galaxy FC’s ownership and leadership for their professionalism and smooth negotiations, which laid the foundation for Sosseh’s European breakthrough.
Sosseh joined Kalmar FF in February 2025 from BST Galaxy FC, becoming one of the first 10 players exported directly from the Gambian top tier to the professional European level. Despite arriving as a young and relatively unknown prospect, the dynamic midfielder quickly made his mark. In just one season, he featured in 24 matches, scoring three goals and providing two assists, while playing a pivotal role in Kalmar’s successful promotion to the Swedish Allsvenskan. His performances, maturity, and work rate soon attracted attention beyond Sweden.
Although Sosseh’s start in Sweden was not without challenges, limited early playing time only fuelled his determination. Through patience and perseverance, he earned his place in the squad and enjoyed a breakthrough during the summer, a period that sparked growing interest from several European clubs. Slavia Praha eventually emerged as the most convincing suitor, standing out with concrete bids, clear commitment, and a well-defined sporting project that aligned with both the player’s ambitions and the agent’s vision.
The move carries added significance given the existing Gambian connection at Slavia Praha, where Youssoupha Sanyang is already part of the squad. This familiarity, combined with Slavia’s stature as one of Central Europe’s top clubs and a regular presence in European competitions, made the transfer both a logical and exciting next step for Sosseh.
As he begins this new chapter in Prague, expectations are high for the young Gambian. With his proven mentality and steady progression, Sosseh’s journey serves as a powerful example of what structured pathways, hard work, and belief can achieve.
