Sunderland vs Wolves Match Preview

Sunderland gained promotion back to the top-flight after winning the EFL Championship playoffs last season, and have been one of the surprise teams in the EPL this season. They have found themselves in the top half of the table after seven matches, having won three times, drawn twice and lost only two games.

The Black Cats will also look to bounce back from a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Manchester United, in their final match before the international break.

Wolves, on the other hand, have endured a difficult start to the 2025/26 league season. They remain rooted to the bottom of the standings and are the only side without a victory in the league this season.

Vitor Pereira’s men have picked up just two points from their seven league games so far, but will be boosted by not losing any of their last two matches.

  • 09.12.2017 – Wolves 0-0 Sunderland

  • 04.12.2011 – Wolves 2-1 Sunderland
  • 14.05.2011 – Sunderland 1-3 Wolves

Wolves have won two of their last five meetings with Sunderland, who have only one win during this period, with the remaining two games ending on level terms.

Recent Form: Sunderland

Sunderland have been relatively inconsistent in their performances, although they have picked up a couple of impressive results in the league this season.

The Black Cats are unbeaten at home in the league and have only lost one of their last five matches.

Recent Form: Wolves

Wolves have been very poor this season and are without a win in seven league matches. They have also lost two of their three away league matches this season.

The last time they won a match in the league was in April, when they defeated already-relegated Leicester City 3-0.

For our away Premier League fixture at Sunderland this weekend, advanced searches will take place on entry. Please note that coins, vapes, power banks, flares, smoke canisters, and umbrellas are not permitted in the stadium.

Player to Watch: Tolu Arokodare (Wolves)

Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare has been eased slowly into the side, but showed his quality with a brilliant individual goal, scoring his side’s second in the win over Everton in the Carabao Cup.

The 24-year-old link up play with strike partner Jorgen Strand Larsen will be a major form of threat for Wolves against the Black Cats.

Sunderland have been one of the surprise teams of the season and will be expected to continue their brilliant home form with a favourable outcome against Wolves, who have struggled for results this season.
