Super Eagles defender Igoh Ogbu exclusively talked to Footy-Africa after he had undergone successful surgery in Prague after suffering an injury while on international duty with Nigeria.
The Slavia Prague centre-back was forced to leave the Super Eagles camp shortly before Nigeria’s international friendly against Portugal on Wednesday after sustaining an injury during training.
Speaking exclusively to Footy-Africa from his hospital bed in Prague, the defender expressed disappointment at missing the Portugal clash but remained optimistic about his recovery.
“It is unfortunate that it happened because I wanted to be part of the game against Portugal, but life is not always predictable,” Ogbu said. “The boys gave their all, but unfortunately we lost the game. I wish I could have been there to help them, but it was not to be.”
“Injuries, though unfortunate, are part of football, even if no player likes to be injured. It is what it is, and I have to face it.”

The former Flying Eagles defender also revealed that the surgery went according to plan and is already looking ahead to rehabilitation.
“The operation went well and I hope to start rehabilitation soon. Hopefully, if everything goes according to plan, I will be back for the start of next season. That is my target and I am working towards it.”
The setback ruled him out of the match and brought an abrupt end to what had otherwise been a productive international window for the defender.
Following his return to the Czech Republic, Ogbu underwent detailed medical examinations and scans at his club. After assessing the extent of the injury, Slavia Prague’s medical team recommended surgery.
The operation, which was carried out on Ogbu’s left Achilles tendon, was successful, with the club confirming that the player is expected to be sidelined for approximately three weeks as he begins his recovery process.

The injury comes at a frustrating time for Ogbu, who has enjoyed a strong year for both club and country. He played a key role in Nigeria’s Unity Cup triumph in London and also started the Super Eagles’ 2-2 draw against Poland earlier this month.
At club level, the defender made 20 appearances for Slavia Prague last season, scoring once and helping the Czech giants maintain their domestic dominance.
