German Bundesliga side Red Bull Salzburg are edging closer to completing the signing of Nigerian-Swiss defender Ifeanyichukwu Onwuzulike, Footy-Africa can exclusively report.
According to information made available to Footy-Africa by transfer expert Lorenzo Lapore, the highly-rated young defender will join the Austrian club as a free agent and is expected to sign a three-year contract with Salzburg.
The playerβs contract with Winterthur U-19 is set to expire, with everything now in place to allow him complete his move to Austria, including undergoing a medical examination.
Onwuzulike is seen as the ideal replacement for Joane Gadou, who is reportedly set to leave Red Bull Salzburg for Borussia Dortmund this summer.
The 16-year-old defender had also attracted interest from German giants Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, but Salzburg have now won the race for his signature.
Onwuzulike is expected to continue his development at Salzburg, with plans for him to eventually make the step up to the clubβs first team in the near future.
Born in Switzerland, Onwuzulike currently represents the Swiss U-17 national team, but remains eligible to play for Nigeria at senior level through his father.
