FC Porto are leading the race to sign OGC Nice striker Terem Moffi as the Nigerian international looks to force an exit from the Ligue 1 club following a breakdown in relations with supporters, according to Antena 1.
The 26-year-old has not featured for Les Aiglons since November, following a physical altercation with fans in the wake of a home defeat to Lorient.
While Moffi’s legal team has explored a contract termination on safety grounds, the Portuguese giants are now exploring a loan deal with an option to buy.
Farioli factor
The move would reunite Moffi with Porto head coach Francesco Farioli. The Italian, who took over at the Estádio do Dragão in July 2025 after a stint at Ajax, previously managed Moffi at Nice during the 2023/24 campaign.
Five African players eyeing moves in the January transfer window
Under Farioli, Moffi enjoyed one of his most productive spells, netting 11 goals to help Nice secure a fifth-place finish. Farioli’s Porto currently sit top of the Primeira Liga and remain the only unbeaten side in Europe’s major leagues this season.
Striker Shortage
Despite their dominant domestic form, Porto are in the market for attacking reinforcements due to a growing injury list:
- Luuk de Jong: The veteran Dutchman is sidelined with a partial ACL tear suffered in late 2025.
- Samu Omorodion: While the Spaniard has been in scintillating form—scoring 12 goals in 18 league matches—the club lacks a senior alternative.
- Deniz Gül: The young forward remains a peripheral figure in Farioli’s tactical setup.
Transfer tug-of-war
Porto are not the only club monitoring the situation. Turkish giants Besiktas are also reportedly interested, viewing Moffi as a potential replacement for Tammy Abraham, who is heavily linked with a return to the Premier League with Aston Villa.
Porto have also considered Borussia Dortmund’s Fabio Silva, but BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl recently stated the club has no intention of letting the Portuguese forward leave in the January window.
With Moffi valued at approximately €10m, a deal could be struck quickly if Nice choose to cut their losses rather than risk further instability within the squad.
