Former Nigeria U20 star Samson Tijani has sealed a permanent move from Austrian giants Red Bull Salzburg to Czech club Dukla Praha, in a transfer seen as a major step forward in reviving his career.
The 23-year-old midfielder, who joined Salzburg in 2020, struggled to cement a regular place due to limited playing time, multiple loan spells, and a serious injury that stalled his progress. After five years with the Austrian side, Tijani has opted for a fresh challenge in the Czech First League.
FIFA-licensed intermediary Yusuf Odusanya of J14 Sports, who facilitated the move, in an exclusive interview with Footy-Africa described the transfer as a “new beginning” for the Nigerian talent.
“Samson Tijani has just signed a multi-year contract with Dukla Praha — a transfer that marks a new chapter in his career,” Odusanya said. “It hasn’t been an easy journey since his move to Salzburg in 2020. He faced limited game time, several loan spells, and even a career-threatening injury. But all of that is behind him now. Joining Dukla Praha brings him closer to the level he’s meant to reach.”
Odusanya also revealed there was interest from top European and UAE clubs, but the player prioritized regular playing time and development.
“After his contract with Salzburg expired, we had offers from top teams across Europe and the Middle East. However, our focus was to place him at a club where he can play consistently. We believe the Czech league will bring out the ruggedness and physicality in his game,” he added.
Tijani turned down a contract extension from Salzburg and multiple foreign offers to sign with Dukla Praha, aiming to rebuild his form and return to top-level football.
