Uganda Cranes midfielder Baba Al-Hassan has embarked on a fresh chapter in his career after completing a two-year move to Turkish outfit Mardin 1969 Spor Club.
The 26-year-old arrives in Turkey following a productive spell with Romanian giants FCSB, where he established himself as a dependable midfield presence over two seasons. During his time at the Bucharest-based club, Al-Hassan made 72 appearances across all competitions and found the back of the net twice.
Confirming the acquisition, Mardin 1969 Spor Club welcomed the midfielder with an ambitious message, expressing confidence that his qualities will strengthen the team’s ambitions.
“We wish Baba Alhassan, who we believe will make significant contributions to our goals with his experience, character and quality, a career full of success under our red-navy blue jersey and hope that he will be beneficial to our community.”
Born in Accra, Ghana, Al-Hassan’s football journey began at African Talent Football Academy before he earned a move to Spanish side Real Valladolid. He featured for Real Valladolid B between 2018 and 2019, using the experience as a springboard to European football before switching to Romanian club Hermannstadt as a free agent in 2020.
His impressive performances in Romania eventually earned him a transfer to FCSB, where he continued to enhance his reputation as a composed and industrious holding midfielder.

On the international stage, Al-Hassan has earned five caps for the Uganda Cranes despite his Ghanaian roots. He was included in Uganda’s 25-man squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, further cementing his place in the national team setup.
His new employers boast a rich history in Turkish football. Mardin 1969 Spor Club was established in 1969 following the merger of four local teams, Kalespor, Timurspor, Mezopotamyaspor and Genclikspor. Nicknamed the Red and Navy Blues, the club hosts its home matches at the 5,700-capacity 21 Kasım Stadium in Mardin and famously captured the league title during the 2003/04 campaign.
Al-Hassan will now be expected to bring his top-flight experience and defensive steel to Mardin as the club looks to build a competitive side for the seasons ahead.
