Ugandan international and experienced central midfielder Paul Mbowa has reached an agreement with Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC to extend his contract beyond June 30, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.

The 29-year-old, who joined Vipers at the start of the 2022/23 campaign, is set to sign a new two-year deal that will keep him at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende until at least June 2027. This follows an impressive season in which he helped the team win both the Uganda Premier League and the Uganda Cup.

A source close to the player revealed that Mbowa will add two more seasons to his career at Vipers, with the contract expected to be signed before the end of the week. The source also confirmed that the new deal includes improved financial terms.

β€œThere is an agreement between Vipers and Mbowa, and a new contract will be signed at the end of the week β€” it’s confirmed. Paul (Mbowa) is happy at the club and gave them priority despite interest from Zambia and South Africa. It’s an improved contract as well. The head coach (John Luyinda) absolutely loves the player β€” his versatility and experience are a huge asset,” the source exclusively told Footy-Africa.

In the concluded season, he made 31 appearances across all competitions, including the FUFA Super 8, Uganda Premier League, and Uganda Cup. During the 2023/24 campaign, he featured in 30 matches for the seven-time league champions. He previously played for URA FC and SC Villa.

Meanwhile, on the international stage, Mbowa β€” who can also comfortably play as a central defender β€” has earned seven caps for the Uganda senior national team, The Cranes.
