Uganda’s continental representatives, Vipers SC and Kitara FC, will discover the first obstacle on their African campaigns on Thursday, August 6, when the Preliminary Round draws for the 2026/27 CAF Interclub competitions are conducted at CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.
The two clubs head into the draws with contrasting ambitions but a shared objective of flying Uganda’s flag on the continental stage. League champions Vipers SC will compete in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League after reclaiming the 2025/26 Uganda Premier League crown, while Stanbic Uganda Cup winners Kitara FC will begin their journey in the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.
For Vipers, the draw marks the beginning of another bid to establish themselves among Africa’s elite. Having earned their place as Uganda’s league champions, the Venoms will be eager to navigate the preliminary rounds and secure a coveted spot in the group stage of the continent’s premier club competition.
Kitara, meanwhile, will be preparing for their own continental challenge after booking a place in the Confederation Cup through their Uganda Cup triumph. The Hoima-based side will be hoping for a favourable draw as they seek to make a significant impression in only their latest venture onto the African stage.
The Confederation Cup draw will be held first at 14:00 Cairo time (11:00 GMT), before the Champions League draw follows an hour later at 15:00 Cairo time (12:00 GMT).
Both ceremonies will be streamed live on CAF TV, with clubs and supporters across the continent set to learn the opening fixtures that will kick off the race towards the group stages of Africa’s two premier club competitions.
