Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC have stepped up preparations for a demanding 2026/27 campaign by unveiling experienced DR Congo defender Jacques Mangoba as their latest signing, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.
The right-back has put pen to paper on a two-year contract with the Venoms, becoming the club’s second addition of the current transfer window after the earlier capture of midfielder Joel Sserunjogi from KCCA FC.
Mangoba arrives in Kitende with an impressive résumé built across Central and Southern Africa. The Congolese defender has previously represented DR Congo heavyweights AS Vita Club and AS Simba, while also enjoying a stint with Angolan top-flight side Sagrada Esperança.
His arrival gives head coach Denis Lavagne another experienced option on the right side of defence ahead of a season that promises to test the squad across several competitions.
Vipers are preparing to defend their Uganda Premier League crown while also targeting success in the Uganda Cup and the CECAFA Kagame Cup. In addition, the Venoms will return to the CAF Champions League, where they hope to make a significant impact against the continent’s elite.
Competition for places at right-back is now expected to intensify, with Mangoba joining Ashraf Mandela and Grant Matsiko in the battle for a starting berth. The added depth offers Lavagne greater tactical flexibility as the club navigates a packed fixture schedule.
The signing reflects Vipers’ determination to strengthen key areas early in the transfer window after reclaiming the league title last season. Club officials are keen to assemble a squad with the experience and quality required to compete on both the domestic and continental fronts.
With Mangoba now officially on board and further reinforcements anticipated before the new season begins, Vipers continue to signal their intent to remain the team to beat in Ugandan football while pursuing greater success in Africa.
