Following his departure from Scottish Championship side Ayr United, Footy-Africa sources say Zambian defender Frankie Musonda is attracting interest from clubs in Belgium.
Musonda, whose contract with Ayr United expired this month, is now a free agent and was recently in Belgium.
“Yes, he traveled to Belgium with his agent and friends but didn’t meet any club representatives,” a source told Footy-Africa. “But I can confirm there is interest from Belgian clubs, and his agent is working to secure him a move soon. Belgium is a priority—that’s why he traveled there.”
The 27-year-old joined Ayr United from Raith Rovers in June 2022 and signed a one-year extension last year. However, this season proved challenging for the Brentford-born defender, who was limited to just 16 appearances due to recurring injuries.
He started only 11 matches and registered a single assist. His injury woes also saw him miss several key fixtures, including Zambia’s 5–0 defeat to Russia in an international friendly last month.
Despite the setbacks, Musonda leaves Ayr United having made 71 appearances—the most at any club in his career—scoring five goals and providing three assists. He played a key role during his time at the club, which narrowly missed out on promotion to the Scottish Premiership this season.
