Nigerian international and forward Henry Onyekuru is set to sign for Turkish Super League side Gençlerbirliği, as he is already in the country for the medical tests, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.
Having reached an agreement with Gençlerbirliği last week, the player is already doing his medicals as scheduled by the club. Subsequently, he’ll sign his compatriot later on Monday, before official unveiling in the next 24 to 48 hours.
In an exclusive interview with a source at Foot&Ball, who represent the player’s business, Onyekuru will sign his contract on Monday, after the medicals. The player flew to the country in the evening on Sunday aboard a private jet.
“Henry (Onyekuru) can now be considered a done deal. He has been in Turkey since Sunday when he flew aboard a private jet. He’s currently conducting his medicals and will then sign his contract. Unveiling will happen before Wednesday, as the media duties will be done on Tuesday,” the source exclusively told Footy-Africa.
Gençlerbirliği in advanced talks with Onyekuru, medical scheduled
Last campaign, Onyekuru played for Al-Fayha in Saudi Arabia, a team he featured for since 2023, when he joined from Turkish side Adana Demirspor in 2023. The striker left Al-Fayha after 38 matches, with 11 goals and three assists. In his final campaign at the club, he was limited to just four appearances. At Adana Demirspor, he found the back of the net eight times, with two assists in 30 matches.
Previously, Onyekuru, whose transfermarkt valuation is still estimated at €3 million, has been around Europe with stints at Olympiacos in Greece, Galatasaray in Turkey, Monaco in France, Everton in the English Premier League and Belgian sides Anderlecht as well as KAS Eupen.
