Premier League champions Liverpool have been linked with a move for Gambian forward Yankuba Minteh as they step up their search for a suitable replacement for Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah, who is expected to leave the club at the end of the season.
Four-time Premier League golden boot winner Salah announced that he would leave the club at the end of the season despite having a year left on his contract after both parties agreed to mutually part ways, bringing an end to nine remarkable years filled with historic achievements.
With Salah now set to leave, Liverpool have been exploring several options to replace the superstar and have bow turned their attention to Minteh, as they hope to strengthen their squad to challenge for trophies in the upcoming season after a difficult campaign.
Profile
Minteh joined Brighton from Premier League rivals Newcastle United in a fee worth around £30 million in the summer of 2024 and has developed into a key player for the Seagulls, scoring nine times and providing nine assists from 67 matches across all competitions.
The 21-year-old has also been a mainstay in their team this season, featuring in 28 of their 32 league games so far, as they chase qualification for European football after a two-year absence.
Minteh primarily operates on the right wing and would be a natural fit as a replacement for Salah, but his versatility also allows him to play on the left flank or even as a false nine, giving the coach multiple options during games.
Liverpool renew interest in Yankuba Minteh as Salah successor plan takes shape
How much will Yankuba Minteh cost Liverpool
According to Transfermarkt, Yankuba Minteh is currently valued at around €40 million, making him the most valuable Gambian player in the world and Brighton’s second most valuable asset behind Carlos Baleba.
However, Brighton are expected to demand a higher fee, as they will be keen to make a profit on a player they signed for about £30 million a few years ago before agreeing to any deal if Liverpool pursues a transfer in the summer.
If both clubs eventually settle on a transfer fee, it could see Liverpool secure a long-term successor to Mohamed Salah, while also marking the next major step in Minteh’s young career.
