Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali is back in the headlines following reports linking him with a move to East Africa, where Tanzanian giants Simba Sports Club are said to be interested in securing his services, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.

According to respected East African football agent Edgah Mitemah, who has worked on several transfers involving Simba, the rumours linking Nwabali to the Tanzanian side are credible.

Speaking exclusively to Footy-Africa, Mitemah confirmed that Simba have made enquiries about the goalkeeper, although there are other suitors monitoring his situation.

“Yes, I am aware Simba are looking to sign a goalkeeper, and Nwabali is one of those who has come on their radar at the moment,” he said. “I think he will be a huge addition to the Tanzanian league because of his profile, even though I still do not understand why he left Chippa United when he did.”

Nwabali sounds alarm on West African football decline, points to structural failures

“There are other clubs like Azam FC who might rival Simba for the goalkeeper, while I am also aware of Kaizer Chiefs’ admiration for him. They have been tracking him for some time now. He is a free agent, so it will be easier for Simba to sign him, and I believe the signing-on fee they may offer could tempt him to join. They are interested, and the next few days will be very interesting. I will keep you updated with the latest news on the potential move to Tanzania as soon as I have more information,” Mitemah concluded.

Nwabali has been without a club since terminating his contract with Chippa United in February. There were earlier rumours linking him with a move to a club in Saudi Arabia, as well as interest from a top side in the PSL, but nothing materialised.

After shining at the last Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria, where the Super Eagles finished third to claim the bronze medal, it was widely expected that he would make a big move, especially after indicating his desire to leave Chippa earlier on.

Surprisingly, midway through the season in February, Nwabali and Chippa United decided to part ways.

The 28-year-old has since been undergoing individual training, but the scramble for his signature appears to have begun as most football seasons draw to a close.
