Sheriff Sinyan could be set for a major decision this summer as his contract with Romanian giants CFR Cluj approaches its expiration at the end of the season, Footy-Africa can exclusively report.
The 29-year-old Gambian defender has been one of CFR Cluj’s most reliable performers throughout the current Romanian Super Liga campaign, playing a crucial role in the club’s title challenge. Despite his contract situation, Sinyan has remained a key figure in the squad, starting 33 of the club’s 34 league matches this season and helping the side keep 10 clean sheets.
His consistency and durability have stood out during the campaign, with the defender accumulating 2,939 minutes and averaging at least 86 minutes per game. His commanding displays at the back have reportedly convinced CFR Cluj to prepare a contract extension offer in a bid to retain one of their most important players ahead of next season.

However, the battle for Sinyan’s signature may not be straightforward. City rivals Universitatea Cluj are understood to have already contacted the player regarding a potential switch across Cluj-Napoca. The interest from Universitatea comes at a time when the experienced defender’s future remains unresolved, adding another layer of intrigue ahead of the summer transfer window.
Sinyan, who previously overcame injury struggles earlier in his career, has successfully rebuilt his reputation in Romania with a string of impressive performances. His resurgence has not only strengthened CFR Cluj’s defensive line but has also re-established him as one of the most dependable Gambian defenders currently playing in Europe.
With only two league fixtures remaining and CFR Cluj still battling for the Romanian title, attention will soon shift toward whether the club can convince Sinyan to continue his journey at the club or if he will opt for a fresh challenge with their local rivals.
