Tanzanian Premier League giants Azam FC have intensified their recruitment drive in Uganda, with sources telling Footy-Africa that the club has made inquiries about SC Villa winger Hassan Mubiru.
The development comes shortly after Azam reached a verbal agreement with KCCA FC for Uganda Premier League top scorer Ivan Ahimbisibwe, who is expected to join the Tanzanian outfit on a two-year contract.
According to sources, Azam are now monitoring Mubiru, who still has one year remaining on his contract with record Uganda Premier League champions SC Villa.
The winger enjoyed an impressive 2025/26 campaign, emerging as one of the league’s standout performers. Mubiru scored six goals and provided five assists, playing a key role in SC Villa’s attacking play throughout the season.
Ahimbisibwe set for Azam FC move, KCCA agree to a deal with Tanzanian giants
His performances have not gone unnoticed, with Azam viewing the former KCCA FC and Express FC player as a potential addition to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.
Mubiru’s pace, creativity and ability to influence games in the final third have made him one of the most sought-after wide players in Uganda, and any move for the winger would require negotiations with SC Villa given his existing contractual obligations.
Azam’s growing interest in Ugandan talent reflects the club’s ambition to bolster its squad with proven performers from the region as it prepares for the upcoming Tanzanian Premier League campaign.
With Ahimbisibwe’s move already verbally agreed and Mubiru now on Azam’s radar, the Tanzanian side could soon have a significant Ugandan presence within their ranks.
