Ghana’s midfielder Lawrence Ofori has voiced unwavering belief in the Black Stars’ ability to navigate the treacherous waters of Group L at the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
The 24-year-old, who plies his trade with Portugal’s Casa Pia, is optimistic about Ghana’s chances despite a challenging lineup. The Black Stars will kick off their campaign against Panama, before clashing with 1966 champions England and 2018 runners-up Croatia.
Ghana booked their World Cup ticket with an impressive qualifying campaign, topping their group with eight wins, a single draw, and just one loss. Yet, lingering doubts about the squad’s form lingered among fans following the team’s failure to secure a spot at AFCON 2025.

Ofori, however, remains unfazed and believes Ghana can emerge from a tough group.
“I know we’re not favorites, but we don’t shy away from the fight. We face the situations head-on and I believe we’ll get through the group stage. I’m confident in the players, and I think we’ll go far,” he said to the press.
Reflecting on Ghana’s history on football’s grandest stage, Ofori recalled the heartbreak of 2010 when the Black Stars came agonizingly close to becoming the first African nation to reach the World Cup semi-finals.
“In 2010 we almost reached the semi-finals, but Suárez saved that goal with his hand and we couldn’t advance. This year will be different,” he added.
