Ghana FA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum has exclusively told Footy-Africa that the Black Stars are unlikely to play another friendly before their opening match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, although he has not completely ruled out the possibility.
The Black Stars have been searching for a second warm-up fixture following their 1-1 draw against Wales, but with less than two weeks before their Group L opener against Panama on June 17, efforts to secure another opponent appear to have stalled.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Footy-Africa, Asante Twum admitted discussions have not produced the desired outcome.
“At the moment, it’s very unlikely we’ll play another friendly. We’ve held talks, but nothing has been finalised,” he said.
World Cup preparations hit bump as Honduras pull out of Ghana friendly
However, he added that the possibility of a late arrangement still exists:
“I can’t completely rule it out.”
Ghana had initially been linked with a friendly against Jamaica before attention shifted to Honduras, but neither fixture materialised.
Despite the setback, Asante Twum said head coach Carlos Queiroz remains relaxed about the situation and is making the most of the additional training time with his players.
If no friendly is arranged, Ghana will head into the tournament having played just one warm-up match under Queiroz, while Group L opponents Panama have already featured in four friendlies, including one against Brazil.

The Black Stars open their World Cup campaign against Panama in Toronto before facing England in Boston and Croatia in Philadelphia.
