Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz has expressed unwavering confidence ahead of the Black Stars’ opening match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, believing his side has what it takes to begin the tournament with a positive result against Panama.
The West Africans will launch their Group L campaign on June 17 at Toronto’s BMO Field, hoping to lay down an early marker in a pool that also features European heavyweights England and Croatia. A strong start is viewed as crucial for Ghana’s ambitions of reaching the knockout rounds.
The build-up to the competition has not been entirely smooth for the four-time African champions. Limited opportunities for competitive warm-up matches and lingering fitness concerns surrounding several members of the squad have raised questions about the team’s readiness for the global showpiece.

Despite those challenges, Queiroz remains convinced that his players are prepared for the task ahead. The experienced tactician, who has previously managed national teams including Egypt, Iran and Colombia, says the mood within camp is positive and focused as the team enters the final stages of preparation.
Speaking to Asempa FM, the Portuguese coach dismissed concerns over Ghana’s prospects and reaffirmed his belief in the squad’s ability to deliver when it matters most.
“We’re strong, and we’re going to make it,” Queiroz said.
The Black Stars have already established their base in Toronto and are completing their final training sessions before the tournament opener. After facing Panama, Ghana will turn their attention to a blockbuster encounter against England on June 23 at Gillette Stadium before wrapping up their group-stage fixtures against Croatia four days later at the same venue.
