Championship side Portsmouth have stepped up their pursuit of Gambian international Jesper Ceesay by submitting a bid worth approximately £1 million for the Antalyaspor midfielder, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.
The 24-year-old, who also holds Swedish citizenship, has emerged as a sought-after target this summer following Antalyaspor’s relegation from the Turkish top flight. With the club preparing for life in the second division, a summer departure for the defensive midfielder is becoming increasingly likely.
However, Portsmouth are not alone in the race for Ceesay’s signature. Saudi Pro League side Al-Fateh have also submitted an offer as they seek to strengthen their midfield ahead of the new campaign, setting up a transfer battle between clubs from England and Saudi Arabia.
Ceesay joined Antalyaspor just a year ago and remains under contract until June 2028, placing the Turkish club in a strong negotiating position despite its relegation. Any interested club will therefore need to meet the club’s valuation before a deal can be concluded.
Known for his composure in possession, defensive discipline and ability to shield the back line, Ceesay has established himself as a reliable holding midfielder capable of competing at a high level. His performances have continued to attract attention from clubs looking to add steel and experience in midfield.
At international level, Ceesay has earned three senior caps for The Gambia and remains part of the Scorpions’ growing pool of players competing across Europe’s top leagues.
According to Transfermarkt, the midfielder currently has an estimated market value of €1.5 million, although interest from multiple clubs could increase his eventual transfer fee.
With both Portsmouth and Al-Fateh pushing to secure his services, the coming weeks are expected to be decisive in determining where Ceesay continues his career.
