The FIFA World Cup has long been football’s biggest shop window, offering players the opportunity to showcase their talents on the grandest stage and, in many cases, earn lucrative transfers.

With the 2026 tournament being staged across the United States, Mexico and Canada during the European summer transfer window, clubs have been closely monitoring standout performers throughout the competition.

African players have once again made a significant impact, with several enhancing their reputations through impressive displays for their national teams.

Here, Footy-Africa looks at five African stars who could be rewarded with high-profile moves after the tournament.

South Africa defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi has emerged as one of the revelations of the tournament.

The 20-year-old had earned only 10 international caps before the World Cup, scoring once for the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations winners. However, he featured in all four of Bafana Bafana’s matches as they reached the knockout stage of the competition for the first time.

Mbokazi joined MLS side Chicago Fire from Orlando Pirates in January 2026 for a reported fee of €2.5 million and has continued his impressive development in the United States. During the 2025-26 season, he made 12 Major League Soccer appearances before carrying his club form onto the international stage.

His performances have reportedly attracted interest from several European clubs, including Club Brugge, Anderlecht, Ajax, FC Utrecht, Sassuolo, Rennes, Eintracht Frankfurt, Bournemouth, Nottingham Forest and Real Betis.

With his market value estimated at around €5 million, Chicago Fire could face a difficult decision should formal offers arrive this summer.

Few stories have captured the imagination at the World Cup quite like that of Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha.

The 40-year-old, whose full name is Josimar José Évora Dias, played a key role in helping the tournament debutants reach the last 32. He produced a series of outstanding performances, making 18 saves across four matches.

Among his standout displays were an eight-save performance against Argentina and seven crucial saves against Spain, ending the tournament with a save percentage of 78.3%.

Now a free agent following his departure from Portuguese second-tier side GD Chaves, the experienced goalkeeper has reportedly attracted interest from Major League Soccer outfit Inter Miami, where he could potentially become a team-mate of Lionel Messi.

Egypt winger Haissem Hassan has used the World Cup to underline the talent that many believed he possessed.

After failing to feature during Egypt’s group-stage campaign, Hassan seized his opportunity in the knockout rounds. Against Australia, he registered an assist and also had a stunning solo effort ruled out after driving through several defenders.

The 23-year-old currently plays for Real Oviedo. Although his 2025-26 campaign produced modest numbers—three assists in 37 appearances—his performances on the international stage have significantly boosted his profile.

Hassan has previously represented Châteauroux, Villarreal, CD Mirandés and Sporting Gijón.

The left-footed winger has been linked with Scottish Premiership champions Celtic. His contract reportedly includes a £16 million release clause, although that figure is believed to have fallen to £10 million following Oviedo’s relegation.

Azzedine Ounahi first announced himself to the world during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, helping Morocco become the first African nation to reach the semi-finals.

Four years later, the midfielder has once again been among Morocco’s standout performers as the Atlas Lions progressed to the quarter-finals in North America.

His two goals and Player of the Match display in Morocco’s 3-0 victory over Canada highlighted a tournament in which he has rediscovered his best form.

Despite Girona’s relegation from La Liga, Ounahi remained one of the club’s most consistent midfielders throughout the domestic season.

The former Marseille player has reportedly attracted interest from fellow Spanish clubs Getafe and Sevilla, while additional suitors are expected following his World Cup performances.

At just 18 years old, Ayyoub Bouaddi has further strengthened his reputation as one of Europe’s brightest young midfield prospects.

The Lille youngster earned widespread praise after an outstanding performance in Morocco’s opening match against Brazil, where he outshone experienced midfielders Casemiro and Bruno Guimarães.

Bouaddi’s energetic displays have been among the highlights of the tournament. His defensive contribution has been equally impressive, with 151 possession recoveries, 59 tackles and 27 interceptions placing him among the leading performers in his age group.

His performances have intensified interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, with Manchester City, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain all reportedly monitoring the teenager.

Lille are understood to value Bouaddi at between £69 million and £86 million, but after his impressive World Cup campaign, there appears to be no shortage of clubs willing to consider meeting that valuation.
