Swedish giants AIK Fotboll are closing in on the signing of highly rated Nigerian winger Shedrack Chiwunba Egboh after the youngster impressed during a successful trial with the club, Footy-Africa has learned.
The exciting left-footed attacker, who developed at Lagos-based Inspire Football Academy, spent several days training with AIK’s U-19 side before earning the opportunity to work with the club’s first team. His performances convinced the Swedish outfit to move forward with plans to sign him on a long-term deal.
The two sides  have already reached an agreement in principle over the player’s move, with only the financial details of the transfer still to be finalised.
Speaking exclusively to Footy-Africa, Inspire Football Academy Director Francis Ogete confirmed that the Swedish club are eager to complete the deal.
“He has done well there, and the club has agreed to sign him on a long-term deal, with his personal terms already agreed,” Ogete said. “The only thing remaining is the transfer fee between the two parties, as what was offered did not meet our valuation of the player.”
“We are still discussing because we have a good working relationship with them, and I am sure we will reach an agreement soon on the financial aspect. It should not be a problem, but at the moment we have not yet concluded the deal.”
Egboh’s rapid rise has not gone unnoticed across Europe, with several clubs monitoring his development before AIK emerged as the frontrunners for his signature.
According to Ogete, interest has arrived from England, Belgium and Denmark, but AIK’s reputation for nurturing young talent made them the preferred destination.
“We had a lot of teams inquiring about him. In fact, I have a written document from a top club in Denmark that is trying to bring him there. Aston Villa, Club Brugge, Brentford and Brøndby are some of the clubs seeking to sign him.”
“He is a young lad who wants to make a name for himself, and my prayer is that he remains focused on his game. If he can do that, he will play for the Super Eagles very soon. I am sure of that because, in my opinion, he is the best young left winger in Nigeria at the moment,” he added.
Should the remaining details be resolved, Egboh is expected to become the latest Nigerian youngster to begin his European journey in Sweden after Zadok Yohanna, with AIK confident they have secured one of the country’s brightest emerging talents.
