Nigerian defender Abdullahi Bewene has committed his long-term future to Czech top-flight side Baník Ostrava after signing a new contract that will keep him at the club until June 2031.
Speaking through his representative and manager, Mohammed Babawo, Bewene expressed his delight at extending his stay with the Czech side and reaffirmed his commitment to helping the club achieve success.
“Since I joined the club, they have treated me very well, and I feel this is my way of repaying the faith they have shown in me by signing a new contract,” Bewene said. “I love the club, and they love me too. That relationship is very important for every player, and it made the decision to extend my contract an easy one.”
“I hope we can achieve great things together, win trophies and make our fans proud because they deserve every success. I am delighted to have signed this new deal with Baník, and I am looking forward to what the future holds,” he added.
Super Eagles newbie Abdullahi Bewene attracts interest from France and Belgium
The extension comes just days after Footy-Africa exclusively revealed that the 21-year-old was attracting strong interest from clubs in France and Belgium following a breakthrough campaign for both Baník Ostrava and the Super Eagles.
Rather than risk losing one of their brightest young talents, the Czech club acted swiftly to tie Bewene down to an improved long-term deal, reaffirming their faith in his ability and his importance to the club’s future.
Primarily a right-back, wine has enjoyed a remarkable rise since arriving at Baník, progressing through the youth and reserve teams before establishing himself as a regular in the senior squad.
His impressive club form earned him a maiden call-up to the Super Eagles earlier this year. The versatile defender made his international debut in June and featured in Nigeria’s friendly matches against Poland and Portugal, performances that further enhanced his growing reputation across Europe.
