Girona are leading the race to sign Ghana defender Abdul Mumin, with the Spanish second-tier club pushing to complete a deal for the free agent, Footy-Africa understands.
A source close to the situation told Footy-Africa that the defender has received several offers during the current transfer window, but his recovery from the serious injury has made clubs cautious.
“Mumin has had several offers this transfer window, but it has been complicated because of his recent recovery from the serious injury. His recovery is complete, but some clubs are still cautious because they fear he could suffer another rupture,” the source said.
The source added:
“Girona are currently in the strongest position. They have been in contact for a long time and they are the club pushing the most at the moment. The medical will be very important before everything can be concluded.”

The Catalan side have maintained contact with Mumin for some time and have now moved ahead of other interested clubs in the race for his signature.
Mumin has also held talks with Getafe and a Portuguese club over a possible move, but Girona are currently in the strongest position.
The 28-year-old will, however, have to pass a thorough medical before any deal can be completed, with his recent injury history a key consideration.
Mumin has fully recovered from the anterior cruciate ligament injury he suffered in March 2025, but he has played only three competitive matches since returning to action.
Mumin became a free agent after his contract with Rayo Vallecano expired in June.
He made three LaLiga appearances last season after returning from injury and was subsequently included in Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup squad, although he did not feature.
The right-footed centre-back joined Rayo in 2022 and made 60 LaLiga appearances for the Madrid-based club.
