Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC have completed the signing of Nigerian central defender Tarabina Biweribo, with the 23-year-old putting pen to paper on a two-year contract, pending unveiling, Footy-Africa can exclusively reveal.
Biweribo arrives from Nigerian top-flight side Plateau United, where he featured prominently last season, making 20 Nigeria Premier Football League appearances, scoring twice and providing two assists.
Nigerian side Kano Pillars had unveiled him earlier in July, but Vipers have hijacked the deal before they could secure the International Transfer Certificate (ITC).
The imposing centre-back brings valuable Nigerian top-flight experience to a Vipers side preparing to defend its domestic crown and compete on the continental stage.
Before joining Plateau United, Biweribo spent four seasons with Bayelsa United, having established himself as a dependable defensive presence in Nigeria’s competitive football landscape.
His move to Kitende comes as Vipers look to fill the void left by Rogers Torach, who recently completed a transfer to Tunisian club CS Constantine. The club view Biweribo as a direct replacement for the Uganda international and an important addition to their defensive ranks.
The Nigerian becomes the latest piece in an ambitious Vipers recruitment drive under the club’s management, with the Venoms moving decisively to strengthen their squad ahead of the new campaign.
Vipers have already added Loyce Mbaba, Nicholas Mwere, Jacques Mangoba, Joel Sserunjongi, Farouk Miya and Cesar Manzoki to their ranks, underlining their intent to build a squad capable of competing on multiple fronts.
Biweribo’s arrival also adds another layer of Nigerian influence to a Vipers setup that continues to assemble a blend of Ugandan and international talent, ahead of a session marred by CAF Champions League, Uganda Premier League and the Uganda Cup.
At 23, the central defender fits the club’s desire to combine immediate quality with players who can develop and retain significant value over the long term.
For Vipers, the signing represents more than simply replacing Torach. Biweribo is expected to provide competition, physicality and composure at the heart of the defence as the champions embark on another demanding season.
