Former Ghana international Andy Yiadom has embarked on a fresh chapter in English football after completing a short-term move to AFC Wimbledon.
The 34-year-old defender has signed a five-month contract with the League Two outfit, keeping him at the club until January 2027.
Yiadom arrives at Wimbledon with a formidable résumé built over nearly two decades in the English game. The experienced full-back has accumulated close to 400 appearances across the EFL’s three divisions, offering manager Johnnie Jackson a seasoned option at the back.
The former Ghana international had already spent several weeks training with Wimbledon before his move was formally concluded.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to play for Wimbledon and I’m ready to give my all for the team,” Yiadom told the club’s official website. “I’m really excited to get involved in the games that we have coming up.”

Jackson believes the defender’s presence will bring more than just additional cover, with his experience and personality expected to prove valuable inside the dressing room.
“Andy has been training with us for a number of weeks and has really impressed,” the Wimbledon manager said. “He has vast experience of the level, brings character and leadership and much needed cover in defensive positions.”
Yiadom’s journey through the English football system began at Barnet, where he developed from a wide player into an accomplished right-back.
He eventually became a key figure at the club, registering 177 appearances and playing a prominent role in Barnet’s 2014/15 Conference title triumph. His performances that season earned him recognition in the division’s Team of the Year.
That campaign helped propel him towards the professional ranks, with Barnsley securing his services on a free transfer in 2016.
Yiadom wasted little time making an impression at Oakwell, contributing to Barnsley’s successful battle to preserve their Championship status before growing into a more influential role within the team.
His standing at the club was underlined during the 2017/18 campaign when he was handed the captain’s armband, reflecting the leadership qualities that would become a defining feature of his career.
He left Barnsley in 2018 after his contract expired and subsequently joined Reading in May of that year.
Yiadom had previously been on the verge of Premier League moves to both Huddersfield Town and Swansea City, but neither transfer ultimately came to fruition.
Instead, Reading became his next long-term home.
“I’m here to use my qualities to help the team – I feel I have a lot to give” 🗣️

The defender spent the next eight years with the Berkshire club, establishing himself as a dependable presence and making 253 appearances in all competitions. His consistency was rewarded in 2021/22 when he was voted Reading’s Player of the Season.
At the international level, Yiadom represented Ghana, adding another dimension to an already extensive career in the English game.
Now, with AFC Wimbledon, the veteran defender gets the opportunity to draw on that experience once again as he looks to make an immediate impact during his five-month stay at the club.
