Gambian striker Modou Lamin Marong has completed a permanent move to Hungarian champions ETO FC Győr from Slovakian second-tier side STK Šamorín, signing a contract that will keep him at the club until 2029.
His agent, Cherno Samba, in an exclusive interview with Footy-Africa has expressed belief that the transfer is the right step for the young forward after his productive campaign in Slovakia.
“Good move. He did really well with Samorin in the second-tier. He reaped it off, scored a lot of goals. It makes sense to go to the next level. That too is a big club.”
Samba also highlighted the ambitions and European experience of ETO Győr, noting their recent involvement in UEFA competition, and believes Marong now has the platform to prove himself at a higher level.
“He has to go and show exactly what he has done in Slovakia and do it in Hungary. Hopefully, he will have a good season. Let’s see what happens.”
The agent also praised Marong’s character, work ethic, and humility, describing him as a player who remains grounded despite his rapid progress.
“He is another humble boy. Hard work. He is very down to earth, and absolutely everyone loves what he does.”
And Samba has no doubts about what Marong can bring to his new club.
“He has to go and do what he has done in Slovakia, and I have no doubt he will. He is another quick and powerful striker. He is a fox in the box. He scores all types of goals. We are excited.”
The 20-year-old enjoyed an impressive spell in Slovakia, scoring 10 league goals in 27 appearances and establishing himself as one of Šamorín’s standout attacking performers. His performances have now earned him a move to the next level of his career in Hungary.
