New York Red Bulls midfielder Mohammed Sofo has told Footy-Africa in an exclusive interview that he will continue to work hard and focus on his performances as he waits for a possible call-up to the Ghana national team.
The Accra-born midfielder said he was concentrating on what he could control rather than worrying about his chances of earning a Black Stars invitation.
Sofo has been enjoying an impressive season in Major League Soccer and delivered a strong performance on Saturday as New York Red Bulls defeated Inter Miami at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, New Jersey.
The midfielder combined effectively with compatriot Ronald Donkor to help the Red Bulls contain Lionel Messi’s side in a notable 2-0 victory.
The match marked Sofo’s 24th appearance of the regular season, underlining his growing importance to the team as he continues to deliver consistent performances.
His displays have raised hopes of a potential Ghana call-up, particularly after Donkor received his first invitation during the September international window.

Sofo expressed his happiness at seeing his teammate earn the recognition.
“Honestly, it was a big feeling to see my brother [Ronald] called up,” he said.
However, the midfielder insists his priority is to maintain his form and leave the rest to the selectors.
“But for me, I try to control what I can control, which is keeping performing week in, week out, and the rest, I think, is not in my hands. Let’s see what happens,” he added.
Born in Accra, Sofo began his football development at the JMG Academy in Mali before moving into professional football with Guidars FC.
He joined New York Red Bulls II on loan from Guidars FC in June 2023 before earning a first-team contract in September 2024.
With his consistent performances in MLS, Sofo will hope to keep making progress and put himself in contention for a future opportunity with the Black Stars.
Black Stars will return to action in November when they face Somalia in twice in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
