English Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers completed the signing of exciting Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare from Belgian side Genk, in a major transfer deadline day swoop.
Genk will receive £24 million for the services of the 24-year-old, with a guaranteed £23 million and £1 million to be paid in bonuses, a record transfer fee received by the club, eclipsing the transfer of Sander Berge to Sheffield United in 2020.
The Super Eagles star joined Genk in 2023 from Latvian outfit Valmeira and shone brightly in the Belgian Super League in the 2024/25 campaign, netting 21 goals to win the golden boot. Despite his heroics in the previous campaign, including winning the Ebony award as the best African player in the league, he has been limited to a few substitute appearances this season, with the club willing to part ways with him.
Arokodare penned a four-year deal at the Molineux, with an option of an extra year potentially keeping him at the club until 2030 and will earn around £45,000 weekly amounting to £2.34 million annually.
The 24-year-old is expected to offer support in Wolves’ attack for forward Jorgen Strand Larsen, who remained at the club despite interest from Newcastle United.
Transfer fee and contract details
Wolves have signed the Nigerian striker for a fee of £24 million, with a guaranteed £23 million and £1 million set to be paid in bonuses.
The English club beat the likes of Fulham, Burnley and Atalanta, who were keen to sign him as a replacement for Mateo Retegui who moved to Saudi Arabia, to secure his services on transfer deadline day.
Arokodare goalscoring prowess will be an extra advantage for Wolves, who have found it difficult to get past opposing goalkeepers in the league this season.
