The 2025/26 German Bundesliga season kickstarted on the 22nd of August with several clubs seeking to displace defending champions Bayern Munich.
Following the recent closure of the transfer window, several African stars have made the moves to new clubs, while others have remained at their current clubs and have continued to deliver impressive performances in the league.
From Borussia Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy to new Bayern Munich striker Nicolas Jackson, here are the top five African players to watch out for in the Bundesliga this season.
Serhou Guirassy (Borussia Dortmund)
Guinea striker Serhou Guirassy enjoyed an impressive debut campaign with Borussia Dortmund last season, netting 38 goals in all competitions, including 21 in the league, with only Bayern’s Harry Kane scoring more.
He also finished as the top scorer in the UEFA Champions League and was rewarded for an outstanding individual campaign by becoming the first Guinean to be nominated for the Ballon d’Or award.
The 29-year-old has continued his goal scoring streak into the new season, with four goals from three games in all competitions, including three in the Bundesliga for BVB.
Victor Boniface (Werder Bremen)
Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface headlined transfer news once again after a failed switch to AC Milan, with reports suggesting that he had failed the medical examination.
The 24-year-old also previously had a proposed move to Al Nassr in January fall through.
He secured a season-long loan move to Werder Bremen on transfer deadline day, and will be eager to rediscover the form he displayed during Leverkusen’s historic Bundesliga-winning campaign.

Nicolas Jackson (Bayern Munich)
Nicolas Jackson finally secured a move to Bayern Munich on transfer deadline day from Chelsea.
The English side had appeared to pull out of the deal after an injury to Liam Delap last weekend, but the move was eventually agreed with an initial £14.2 million loan fee and a £56.25 million obligation to buy.
The Senegalese striker is a valuable addition to the squad and offers adequate cover for Harry Kane, who is the club’s first-choice centre forward.
Nathan Tella (Bayer Leverkusen)
Nigerian forward Nathan Tella has developed into one of the best players at Bayer Leverkusen since his arrival in the summer of 2023.
The 26-year-old already has one assist in two league matches this season.
The club has already dismissed Dutch coach Erik ten Hag after a poor start to the new campaign, and Tella will be eyeing an improved display under the next manager.
Amadou Haidara (RB Leipzig)
Mali midfielder Amadou Haidara has consistently delivered assured performances for RB Leipzig since his move to the club in 2019.
The 27-year-old featured in 28 Bundesliga matches until suffering a ligament injury in May, which ended his season prematurely.
He has missed both of Leipzig’s matches this season but is expected to return to full training later this month.
