Cameroon vs DR Congo Match Preview

Cameroon have the most appearances at the FIFA World Cup by an African nation (8) and will be hoping for a chance to extend that streak when they clash against DR Congo in the playoff semifinal round.

The five-time African champions finished second in Group D behind surprise leaders Cape Verde, following five wins, four draws and a single defeat from their 10 group qualifying matches.

DR Congo, meanwhile, enjoyed an impressive qualifying campaign and were narrowly pipped to the automatic ticket in Group B by Senegal. They finished just two points behind the Teranga Lions, having won seven, drawn one and suffered defeats in two of their 10 qualifying matches so far.

The Leopards face a daunting task of overcoming Cameroon, especially with the absence of star striker Yoane Wissa, who misses out of this clash with injury.

  • 16.02.2020 – DR Congo 0-1 Cameroon

  • 25.01.2016 – Cameroon 3-1 DR Congo

Cameroon have dominated this clash in the past, claiming four wins from the last five meetings between both nations.

Recent Form: Cameroon

Cameroon have been relatively inconsistent in recent outings and have only won two of their last four outings. The 1-0 defeat to Cape Verde in this period dashed their hopes of automatic qualification from the group.

The Indomitable Lions have also been able to prevent their opponents from scoring in three of these matches.

Recent Form: DR Congo

The Leopards have won three of their last four matches, with the lone defeat coming in a 3-2 result to Senegal in September.

DR Congo have kept clean sheets in both of their last two outings, while they have scored in their last seven matches in all competitions.

Player to Watch: Bryan Mbeumo (Cameroon)

Bryan Mbeumo has been on great form in recent outings and has scored twice in his last four matches for Cameroon.

The Manchester United forward will trouble the DR Congo’s defence with his pace and dribbling, which will be important if his side are going to progress.
