Sunderland vs Bournemouth Match Preview

Sunderland head into the clash on the back of a three-game winless run in the league, although they only lost one of those matches. They suffered a 1-0 defeat to Fulham in their last outing, conceding a late goal that saw them drop out of the top four.

The Black Cats have won five of their 12 matches this season, recording four draws and losing only three times in an impressive start to their first top-flight campaign in eight years. They are seventh on the standings with 19 points and are just three points behind Manchester City in third.

Bournemouth, meanwhile, are also winless in their last three league matches and are level on points with Sunderland, although they are behind on goal difference. Andoni Iraola’s men have however lost as many games in their last three matches than they did in eight matches before that run.

The Cherries have accrued 19 points this season and completed a stunning comeback to record a 2-2 draw against relegation-threatened West Ham United in their previous outing.

Head-to-Head Record (Last five meetings)

  • 29.04.2017 – Sunderland 0-1 Bournemouth
  • 05.11.2016 – Bournemouth 1-2 Sunderland
  • 23.01.2016 – Sunderland 1-1 Bournemouth
  • 19.09.2015 – Bournemouth 2-0 Sunderland
  • 17.03.1990 – Bournemouth 0-1 Sunderland

There has been little to separate these two sides in their recent meetings, with two wins apiece and a draw in their last five matches.

Sunderland are also winless in their last two home games against Bournemouth, losing one and recording a draw.

Recent Form: Sunderland

Sunderland are winless in their last three league outings, although they recorded two draws and a single defeat in that period. They have also failed to score only once in their last five matches.

The Black Cats are unbeaten at home this season, recording three wins and four draws, and are one of the few sides yet to lose at their home stadium this season.

Recent Form: Bournemouth

Bournemouth have also suffered a dip in form in recent outings, suffering defeats in two of their last three. They have a very solid attack and have only failed to score in three league games this season.

However, the Cherries have struggled from home and have lost their last two away matches by big margins, a 4-0 defeat to Bournemouth and a 3-1 result to Manchester City.

Player to Watch: Antoine Semenyo (Bournemouth)

Antoine Semenyo has been one of EPL the best players this season, and it is no surprise that he could move away from the Vitality Stadium in January.

The Ghanaian winger missed Bournemouth’s game last weekend, but is expected to return ahead of the Sunderland clash and will cause problems for their defence with his electric pace and dribbling.

Best Betting Odds

Over 1.5 Goals – 1.26 (via 1xBet)

Prediction

Both sides have very strong attacking firepower and this clash should produce at least two goals.
