Libyan side Al Ahly Benghazi have formalised their interest in Uganda international Allan Okello with a $400,000 (£315,000) bid, sources have told Africafoot.

The 25-year-old attacking midfielder, currently a standout performer for Vipers SC, has emerged as a primary target for the Benghazi-based club ahead of the winter transfer window.

However, it is understood that Vipers are holding out for a fee closer to $500,000 (£395,000) before sanctioning the departure of their playmaker.

Precocious talent

Okello has long been regarded as one of East Africa’s brightest creative sparks. He rose to prominence at KCCA FC, making a sensational debut as a 16-year-old by netting a hat-trick that instantly made him a household name in Kampala.

During a prolific initial spell with KCCA, he helped the club to two league titles and two cups, scoring nearly 40 goals across more than 110 appearances.

Seeking a fresh start abroad

The midfielder’s career path has not been without its hurdles. A 2020 move to Algerian outfit AC Paradou failed to spark, leading to a return to KCCA on loan before he eventually settled at Vipers SC in 2023.

Since joining the Venoms, Okello has rediscovered the form that made him a regular fixture for the Uganda national team. Having captained the Cranes on occasion, his influence at both domestic and international levels remains high.

With Benghazi eager to bolster their squad for the second half of the season, the coming weeks will determine whether the two clubs can bridge the $100,000 valuation gap.
