Uganda international Allan Okello is at the centre of a growing continental tug-of-war as Libyan giants Al Ahly Benghazi step up their pursuit of the Vipers SC playmaker, according to Africafoot.

The 25-year-old has enjoyed a transformative 12 months, evolving from a local favourite into one of Africa’s most talked-about talents. After a prolific 2024/25 campaign where he finished as the Uganda Premier League’s top scorer with 19 goals, Okello’s stock rose further following a series of dazzling displays at the African Nations Championship (CHAN).

His technical grace and vision during the tournament—co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania—have not gone unnoticed. While Al Ahly Benghazi have moved quickly to initiate formal talks, they face stiff competition from Algerian heavyweights JS Kabylie and MC Alger. There has even been interest from further afield, with Belgian side Royal Antwerp previously keeping a close eye on his progress.

Vipers SC are understandably reluctant to lose their talisman and are holding out for a package exceeding $500,000. Benghazi’s initial counter-offer is understood to be around the $400,000 mark, but with the winter window approaching, there is a growing sense that an agreement is within reach.

For Okello, who remains under contract until 2026, the move represents a deserved opportunity to test himself in a new environment. Whether he lands in Benghazi or Algiers, the “Okello saga” looks set to reach a conclusion that reflects the rise of one of East Africa’s brightest stars.
