According to exclusive Footy-Africa sources, Hearts of Midlothian are set to officially unveil Ugandan forward Rogers Mato within the next 48 hours after completing the final stages of his move to Tynecastle.

The 22-year-old’s arrival had initially been targeted for last weekend’s blockbuster Scottish Premiership clash with Celtic, but visa complications scuppered Hearts’ hopes of registering and fielding him in time. Those issues have now been resolved, with Mato already in Scotland and having completed his initial media duties ahead of the formal announcement.

What began as a deal pencilled in for the summer has been rapidly accelerated into a January priority. Hearts opted to move immediately rather than wait for Mato to join on a free transfer from North Macedonian side Vardar, agreeing an undisclosed fee to bring him in mid-season.

The urgency around the transfer has been driven by a major setback on the pitch. Club captain and leading scorer Lawrence Shankland, who has 11 league goals this season, is facing up to two months on the sidelines through injury, forcing the club to rethink its attacking options.

Mato arrives with an impressive goalscoring record, having netted 12 times in 13 games for Vardar this season to establish himself as the club’s top scorer. His form in North Macedonia has raised expectations that he can provide goals, energy and depth during a crucial second half of the campaign.

While he missed out on facing Celtic due to administrative delays, Hearts are now confident the hard work behind the scenes has paid off.

With the paperwork complete and the player settled in Scotland, attention turns to Mato’s official unveiling and his readiness to make an impact in maroon as Hearts look to revive their season at a pivotal moment.
