Uganda Cranes winger Abdu Lumala is on the verge of completing a return to Croatian outfit Slaven Belupo, with the two parties set to reach an agreement over a move, Footy-Africa can exclusively reveal.
The 28-year-old is expected to rejoin the Koprivnica-based club after an impressive spell in Greece with PAS Apollon Kiryas Vrysis, where he registered nine goals and five assists in 23 matches.
Sources close to the negotiations indicate that Lumala is set to sign a deal with Slaven Belupo, marking a fresh chapter in a country where he previously struggled for game time. His initial spell lasted only five months, during which he made four appearances before moving on.
Before his move to Europe, Lumala starred for Vipers SC, helping the Venoms secure the Uganda Premier League and Stanbic Uganda Cup double during the 2022/23 season.
He has previously featured for several Swedish clubs, including Mjällby AIF, Kalmar FF, Varbergs BoIS, Helsingborgs IF, IFK Värnamo and Syrianska FC. He also had a spell with Egyptian side Pyramids FC.
On the international stage, Lumala has earned 14 competitive caps for the Uganda Cranes since making his debut at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. The pacey winger has scored twice and provided four assists for the national team, although his last appearance came in 2022.
A return to Slaven Belupo is expected to offer Lumala the opportunity to revive his career in the Croatian top flight, with both player and club optimistic that this second spell will prove far more successful than the first.
